Brass inserts FAQ
Questions, answered.
What is the difference between heat-set and ultrasonic brass inserts?
Both install into plastic by melting it around the insert. Heat-set inserts are pressed in with a heated tip and are ideal for thermoplastics and 3D-printed parts; ultrasonic inserts use high-frequency vibration for fast, high-volume assembly. We supply both, plus press-fit and mold-in styles.
Which brass insert should I use for injection-molded plastic?
For molded-in applications, use mold-in inserts placed in the tool before molding. For post-mold assembly, heat-set or ultrasonic inserts are most common. Send your plastic type and boss dimensions and we'll recommend the right style and knurl pattern.
Do you perform pull-out and torque testing on brass inserts?
Yes. Inserts can be pull-out (jack-out) and torque-out tested in your substrate to validate retention, with test reports supplied on request.
What sizes and threads do you make brass inserts in?
Common sizes run from M2 to M12 and #2 to #10-32 UNC/UNF, with metric and imperial internal threads. Custom sizes, knurl patterns and lengths are made to your drawing.
Are lead-free brass inserts available for medical or food-contact use?
Yes. Low-lead and eco-brass grades are available for medical, food-contact and RoHS-compliant applications, with documentation provided.
